Sueding,13th June

A close up of the guitar is used to express to the audience who is playing- This is Ed's signature guitar as he uses it in every performance, therefore the audience and fans are able to know who is playing, without actually seeing him directly. In addition we are drawn into the music side of the song as the video is simple which shows how ed sheeran is focused on the simplicity of music instead of over complicated music videos as such.

I find this long shot interesting as the lighting highlights the man on the screen as the most important as draws your attention to him, the way the clothes blend into the black background keeps your attention on the figure as you are intrigued to know what will happen next. This also establishes the setting of the video, the lighting letting you see the area of space available.

This extreme close up of the face taken at a high angle would typically highlight weakness in th character, as we (the audience) would be seen to have power over him from a high angle. Yet the glare and slightly 'angry' almost expression on his face seems to cancel out the power imbalance as his eyes contrast with the rest of the image keeping you fixed on the video. This would be a fantastic shot to use in our music video potentially as it also focuses on the face and blurrs the rest of his body (shoulders) that can be seen, always keeping his dominance central in this video.

A mid- long shot with slightly different lighting is used and we can see more of the character as the setting is now brighter. As there is nothing else happening in the video, we are forced to focus on this character which must mean this has been chosen for a particular reson to highlight the importance of this character. the black and white contrast of lighting is somthing to consider when storyboarding our own music video, and trying out a selection of shots to see what fits best etc.
